The Charles Hosmer Morse Museum of American Art houses collections of late 19th and early 20th century paintings, sculptures, and graphics. But the real focus is the most comprehensive collection of works by Louis Comfort Tiffany to be found.
    You should allow plenty of time to explore the large museum. Our group was there for several hours and if you are a fan of his work, as I am, you can spend the whole afternoon there. A downloadable tour is available for your phone, or there are guided tours throughout the day.
    The Morse features Tiffany's design sketches, paintings, jewelry and pottery, as well as art glass and stained glass windows. There is even the original portico from his Long Island estate, Laurelton Hall, reconstructed inside the museum complete with wicker chairs for you to lounge in. You will also find another architectural gem to wander through: Tiffany’s chapel interior from the 1893 World’s Columbian Exposition in Chicago.
    The museum staff and volunteers are very friendly and delighted to talk to you about the works and family history of the Tiffanys (Louis’s father Charles founded the famous jewelry company in New York). There is a gift shop that is worth a look with many art glass reproductions.
    Once back out into the sunlight the museum sits at the northern edge of downtown Winter Park with specialty shops, big name retailers and lots of little side streets and courtyards to explore. It is easy to combine the museum visit with other adventures in Winter Park like the Chain of Lakes Boat Tour, a stroll around Rollins College campus and, of course, plenty of shopping.
