The Market at Marion is just as much fun as the flea markets you remember back home, only much bigger, better, and well organized. The excitement of not knowing what you will find takes you to every corner of the 1,100 booths. Within minutes of arriving I lunged to grab a vintage leather shoulder bag for eight dollars from a table of mostly kitchen do-dads. My lap top fits snuggly inside as though it was custom made. A fellow Villager got us there early on a Saturday and showed us through the mostly roofed wings of booths (it is laid out like an airport with the food court at the center and a ring of parking around it). Open on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, the market draws over a million shoppers per year. Vegetables, fruit, honey and farms fresh eggs are a bargain here. There is something for everyone from clothing, jewelry, tools and even pets. The variety of plants and trees are greater than at the big box stores and the vendors take time to tell you exactly how to care for them.
If you are looking for a bargain, this would be the place to find one and it was great to be around so many people of all ages having fun. Belleview is just a few minutes to the north and a good place to try somewhere new for lunch. We opted for the senior lunch special at Sonny’s BBQ, but there are lots of other choices.
